Whoa Neglected Projected (post formerly titled "Wrenching Time!")

My family headed out of town for a week in March of 2018, and I got a lot of time to work on personal projects.  Ella got a big chunk of that time. I didn't even get around to posting about the work completed that March, but at least I made the quick notes below.

Rocker arms

Work completed 03/2018
  • Set camshaft timing (twice)
  • Installed hydraulic chain tensioner
  • Removed crankshaft seal, pulley side
    • made slide hammer
  • Installed crankshaft seal (required two tries)
    • attempted to make install tool from 9553 (ground down nub)
    • 03/2020 - Should have written more; I have no idea what this means now
  • Replaced hydraulic lifters
  • Installed left side rocker arms
  • Installed right side rocker arms

Since, then work has almost ground to a halt.  Here's what has been done since, mostly in the remainder of 2018 as I was distracted by several other projects in 2019.

Work completed between 04/2018 and 03/2020
  • Install rear engine tin: easier to do before power steering cover on and needs to go on before oil filter holder
  • Install oil filter holder; must be after rear engine tin, but easier before power steering belt housing
  • Install valve covers to prevent stuff from falling in
Valve covers
Timing chain cover
  • Install oil connection between camshaft housing and timing chain housing.  In hindsight, would do this before valve covers as I had to redo one of the upper valve covers to gain a bit of clearance.
  • Power steering cover -- need holding access from the far side of the camshaft.  Also install the left side camshaft cover
  • Install timing chain covers; left side should go on before distributor
  • Distributor -- check TDC on the rocker arms from open valves.  Distributor blocks easy access on the left side

Now with those other projects completed and out of the way, I hope to make the final push on Ella in 2020.
